Surfing around today, I found a great album of photography from inside of The Purple Hotel. We don't claim any ownership of these pictures (that belongs completely to the photographer), but we wanted to share a link to his photos here.
Full credit goes to Dustin Walker for these great pictures!

I'll warn you. The photos are great, but their content isn't exactly pretty. Still, a shame to see this once great landmark reduced to such horrible conditions. It'd take a huge effort, but there's still hope someone can renovate this property!

The Purple Hotel and the Architectural Legacy of Hausner & Macsai
We came across this article earlier today, which discusses the architectural significance of The Purple Hotel, for better or worse.
Chicago Magazine: The Purple Hotel and the Architectural Legacy of Hausner & Macsai
"It's unmissable if you've ever driven down Touhy, and even as it's fallen into total decrepitude—from Perry Como, to mob hits, to drug-fueled corruption, to sex clubs, to abandonment—it's remained a cult favorite of architecture nerds."

Where could you find Michael Jordan & Allen Dorfman in Chicago? The Purple Hotel, of course!
We've focused quite a bit on the state of The Purple Hotel so far and mentioned that this spot is site to some of Chicago's most memorable moments. We found this great article outlining some of the historical value and experiences people had at The Purple Hotel.
Did The Purple Hotel help Chicago win six championships? Maybe. It was the site of his first visit to Chicago.
The Purple Hotel was also the scene for the end of The People vs Allen Dorfman, in what is surely one of the most grizzly scenes in Chicago history.

The Twists and Turns of the Fate of The Purple
Every once in a while, the world of analog comes in handy!

From Gem to Eyesore - The Purple Hotel
An interesting piece that we found regarding The Purple Hotel and the trouble it currently faces. This was once a gem of a hotel in a prime location. While the property may be in less-than-stellar condition today, it still could be renovated back to its former glory...well, if the right people came along.
Anyway, one thing is for sure - you can't rehab something that's torn to the ground.

While it's sad to see the building in this shape, this is still an interesting piece!

Petition to Save the Purple!
Evidently, we're not the only ones who feel that the Purple Hotel is part of Chicago's rich history and should remain standing. We've been pointed to an online petition that has been started for the very same cause we have!

Save The Purple Hotel
What's home to you when you're not at home?
A hotel.
Whether you're near or far, hotels make it possible for all of us to visit far away lands, celebrate life's milestones and reconnect with one another. The digital revolution may have changed the way we communicate with one another, but it will never replace in-person interactions and a webcam will never properly portray the joy of being in person to hear "I do".
The Purple Hotel is a Chicago landmark. Named after it's distinct purple coloring, the hotel has been the site of countless moments in greater Chicago history, both city-wide and personal.
Recently, it's come to our attention that this landmark property is expected to be torn down to the ground. Well, a blog may not stand in the way of this happening, but we'd like to see how many of you out there have fond memories that you'd like to share or reminisce about this piece of our history. You never know, maybe there's just enough history here to keep these distinct purple bricks standing!
